AAA Countrywide Van Lines Review
Several people have been scammed by AAA Countrywide Van Lines. Here is one person's story:
I contracted with AAA Countrywide Van lines to move my possessions from NH to TN. The salesman (Alan, who they claim is no longer employed there) was very competent and easy to talk with on the phone. They were scheduled to pick up on June 26th at 9 am. After many phone calls and excuses they arrived at 4 pm. It took them 7 hours to load basically 3 rooms of furniture. When they were finally loaded, the driver (who spoke little English) informed me I owed $400 extra for packing. He then said if I paid him and the helper $120 each in cash they would lower the amount to $200. When I told him that made no sense, he double checked his math and then said that he would add extra tape, boxes, and packing to make it $500 if I didn't give them the cash. At that point I just wanted them gone and gave them the money. They estimated my move at $1980...the bill was $3100.00 plus the $240 in cash I paid. They told me the goods would be delivered 3-7 business days after I was ready to take possession....I told them I would be ready on June 29. They finally delivered on July 22 after I had an attorney in Brooklyn contact them. They have no weigh slips, they won't document how they came up with the 6000# they charged for. We had a local company physically look at what we were moving and they said it didn't meet their 5000# minimum...they estimated 3500-4000 pounds maximum. Our good arrived damaged, broken, dirty, and several items missing. Their 'claims' department won't return my calls. The men (4) who delivered to us spoke little English and were belligerant and threatening when I questioned the condition of our goods. I finally told them to leave before I called the police...they laughed at that. They wanted $1592.60 in cash before they would unload (in addition to the $1500 I had already paid). I told them I had paid by CC before and they made calls and reluctantly accepted my CC. I have called my CC and told them that all billings to AAA Countrywide Van Lines are being disputed. I spoke with Andy, Arthur, and Marina in dispatch. They were terrible in getting straight information about the delivery...it was always 'next Friday' when I was finally able to get them on the phone. I don't want this experience to happen to any other people...it was horrid...and I'm afraid it's still not over.
